You are the World

Today I participated in the final send-off of a dear friend of mine.  At times like this I think the most important realization we can embody is; how many people we impact in our daily lives.  It may seem sometimes that we go through life not making much of an impact on anything. That was the theme of the classic movie “It’s A Wonderful Life”.  People have disparaged this film as “Capra-corn” for its theme, still it revels an important truth:  each of us touch countless lives each day.  The simplest interactions may have profound impacts on others we may simply not recognize.

The question is, how do you want this impression to be carried forward?  Certainly we cannot control other people’s thinking, but we do influence how we will be perceived.  So much is based upon our projected attitude.  We can be grumpy, or cheerful; upbeat or a downer; encouraging or disparaging.  This is totally up to you.

When we awaken to this understanding, the world becomes new to us again.  We remember that each of us is essential to the world, that each of us has value, has a talent to share, has a skill unlike anyone else.  If this were not so, evolution would have ended some time ago.  If the perfect human with all the perfect skills were embodied in one person, there would be no need for the rest of us.

Keep this in mind as you go about your day.  Know YOU are essential to the world, and so is every other person you encounter.
