You, yes you are the leaders on this planet. I make this claim because here you are, taking time to learn, to grow, to listen to other ideas which you will then merge with your own ideas to become a more effective leader. Many who would ask us to let them be our leaders spend more time looking behind them at what was than they spend looking to the future and how to make things better. This Universe, in fact the entire cosmos, exists on expansion. When we try to recapture what was, or what we think it was, we are not expanding we are contracting. If the Cosmos were looking back it would return to a dense ball of energy. Instead creation is still going on; new planets are being formed, new galaxies are shaping up, new stars are being born. All things are moving forward, shouldn’t our minds also be moving forward too?
There are many things to be learned from the past, this is true, yet learning- from and living-in are totally different ways of thinking. We take what has worked, blend it with what we are experiencing today, then create our future. If you have ever gone through a visioning process you know we often set our vision on things we may never see come to pass. I saw a sign in Kathmandu last week which said “the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the best time to plant a tree is today.” This means when we are being leaders we do not look at our feet, we look at the horizon and beyond.
