I have no choice

Have you ever heard yourself say “I have no choice, I have to do it”?  Try to remember how it feels when you say this to yourself, that you have no choice; very disempowering, isn’t it.  To have no choice means you are doing something against your will, and no one really wants to feel that way.  Well, good news, and better news; you do have a choice, no matter how things look, you always have a choice.  The better news is; that once your realize you do have a choice you have taken control of your life.

The boss tells me I have to stay at work late.  I have no choice.  Yes you do; the choice is to keep your job.  You have made a choice.

I have to pay my taxes, I have no choice.  Yes you do have a choice, but you have weighted the possible outcomes and decided this is what you want to do.

I have to eat three meals a day or my blood sugar goes off the chart.  You do have a choice, and you choose to deal with your body in this manner.

You might be tempted to say to me; “you don’t understand, I have to do this” and I will still say to you; you have a choice, stop being a victim.  If you do not like the choices you have to make, it is you who are keeping you in that position.  Perhaps it is fear of the unknown that keeps you in place, perhaps it is something else, but you have a choice at every turn.  No matter how you dress it up, the question comes back to what choices you are willing to make, and what price you are willing to pay for living in your free will.
