Peace

Here we are on the verge of celebrating another Christmas which, joyfully, also coincides with the first night of Hanukah.  This is a season devoted to peace; world peace as well as peace within ourselves.  This is a season bedecked with images intended to help achieve peace.  We have songs, images, movies and television programs, greeting cards, parties and personal greetings that are geared to bolstering the experience of peace.  For the most part this is the time of year when people are just a little kinder, more giving and a touch more thoughtful than at other times of the year.   Why is this so?  Why do we set aside these few days to be at peace with each other, and let the rest of the year take care of itself?

I am not much for New Years resolutions, however perhaps this is a resolution we can all make.  If Jews and Catholics can sit in community on December 24th, if Methodists and Baptists can share the same selection of Christmas songs, if Muslims and Atheists can smile at each other as they pass on the street, if Buddhists and Shinto can joyfully share the traditions of this season with Christians, why then must we throw it all away when the New Year Bells toll?

If there is a resolution I would myself make along with you, let’s resolve to spread this time of peaceful intentions throughout the entire year.

Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza and Winter Solstice ever.  May this peace be the reality of our whole year.Choiceful Living Seminars more info
